Kervyxa vs. Upwork
Upwork pays for a person's time. Kervyxa pays for a verified result.
This is not a claim that Kervyxa is better than Upwork. They solve different problems. Upwork is a general marketplace for hiring people across almost any kind of work, with hourly and fixed-price contracts, messaging, and a human client approving delivery. Kervyxa is narrower: it only handles software and data outcomes whose completion can be checked by a deterministic, automated verifier, and payment is triggered by that check, not by a person's approval.
Where the mechanics differ
| Aspect | Kervyxa | Upwork |
|---|---|---|
| What decides the work is done | A deterministic, Docker-isolated verifier runs the contract's checks and returns PASS or FAIL. | The client reviews the delivered work and approves or disputes it. |
| When payment is released | Automatically, once verification passes and a fixed challenge window closes — no manual release step. | The client manually releases payment, or an hourly contract bills on a timesheet. |
| Scope of work supported | Objectively verifiable software and data tasks only — bug fixes, regression tests, bounded upgrades, deterministic transformations, fixed benchmarks. | Nearly any freelance category: design, writing, marketing, development, admin support, and more. |
| Billing model | One fixed reward, escrowed in USDC before work starts. No hourly billing, milestones, or timesheets. | Hourly billing with time tracking, fixed-price milestones, or a mix of both. |
| Who picks the solver | Either the requester invites a specific solver, or the contract is opened to the public market — no reputation-based matching yet. | Clients review freelancer profiles, ratings, and portfolios and choose who to hire. |
| If the work never gets delivered | Nothing is delivered and nothing is paid. Payment is released only for a verified result; a funded contract that expires with no qualifying submission is refunded to the requester under its terms. Kervyxa does not guarantee that a solver takes the work on. | The contract is ended or disputed with the freelancer; hourly work already billed has generally already been paid. |
| Dispute handling | A fixed challenge window after a PASS, resolved by Kervyxa as a centralized resolver in this version — not a peer-review or arbitration marketplace. | Upwork's dispute resolution and mediation process, with a support team involved. |
Who this is for, and who it isn't
Reach for Kervyxa when
- The deliverable can be written as an executable check — a test, an exit code, a numeric threshold, an exact file comparison.
- You want payment to be triggered by a machine's verdict rather than a manual approval click.
- The work is public-repository software or data, not a general freelance category.
Reach for Upwork when
- The work is ongoing, hourly, or spans many small requests better handled through a running relationship.
- The category isn't software or data at all — design, writing, marketing, virtual assistance.
- You want to choose a specific person based on a track record and portfolio rather than an automated check.
